Bryan Cooper

Charleston Creativity Connections – Connect with Art and Each Other

Bryan works with The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation as the Charleston Creativity Connector. Bryan earned a BA in Sociology at West Virginia University where he was also a member of the WVU Drumline. After attending WVU Bryan worked in the field of Information Technology for 20 years. Bryan’s experience as a web designer, support analyst, and IT director augmented his education by developing his ability to use technology in every aspect of his work. Bryan and his family moved from Beckley to Charleston in 2012, and they have been in love with Charleston ever since. Although his professional experience has been primarily in the field of technology, Bryan has always kept a foot in the arts world as a volunteer with local theaters, supporter of live music, and by assisting local artists with their work.  In his current role, Bryan works with the Charleston Creative Placemaking Council to develop and identify opportunities to connect local artists with businesses and organizations. Bryan’s goal is to help grow all types of art–visual, music, literary, culinary, and performing arts–into the fabric of Charleston, making it an even more creative and vibrant city. In his free time Bryan enjoys playing board games, traveling and is an all-around lover of having fun with friends and family.

Dr. James Gilman

As CEO of the NIH Clinical Center, James K. Gilman, M.D., oversees day-to-day operations and management of the research hospital on the Bethesda campus of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The hospital is one of the most extensive and state-of-the-art facilities in the world, where clinical researchers partner with patient volunteers, who often have rare and refractory illnesses, to study disease and improve human health. Dr. Gilman guides the overall performance of the NIH Clinical Center, with a focus on setting and exceeding high standards in the areas of patient safety and quality of care. His career is reflective of a strong personal ethic, with values — learned first as a teen working in his family’s grocery store — including hard work, honesty, customer service, and appreciation of the roles everyone plays in an organization’s ultimate success.

Dr. Gilman earned a bachelor’s degree in biological engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1974 on an ROTC scholarship, and an M.D. at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1978. He later earned an M.S. in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2002. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Gilman served 35 years in the U.S. Army, culminating as Major General. He received numerous military awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and Meritorious Service Medal. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army in 2013 – after a highly successful military medicine career from clinician to hospital-system commander – Dr. Gilman served as executive director of Johns Hopkins Military & Veterans Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2017, Dr. Gilman brought his depth and breadth of expertise to the NIH as the hospital’s first Chief Executive Officer.

  • Deadline for guaranteed tickets is Friday, February 18, 2022 (1 week before the concert)
  • All Rotary Club of Charleston purchased tickets will be held at will-call for pickup at the Clay Center under the Rotarian’s name beginning Tuesday, February 22, 2022. The box office hours are Tuesday–Friday, 10:00am–5:00pm. Tickets on Saturday, February 26, 2022 can be picked up beginning at 10:00am through the beginning of the concert at 7:30pm. Club members are encouraged to pick up their tickets ahead of the concert to reduce wait time the night of the event.

The Program Committee invites any and all members to join us every Monday at 1:00 in our meeting room. We only meet for 20-30 minutes and we plan our weekly speakers. We need new energy and encourage all members to join us!

Vaccines are encouraged! The Board of Directors is in full support of the Governor’s, as well as the Health Department’s, efforts to vaccinate the citizens of our great State and County. The Program Committee will resume weekly meetings at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center when in person meetings commence, directly after the regular scheduled meeting. Parking is free just let the parking attendant know you are with the Rotary Club of Charleston.

Putnam Rotary Club Meeting begins at 12:00 noon at Area 34

Vandalia Club meets at Edgewood Country Club Wednesdays from 7:30am – 8:30am. The last Wednesday of month is a social or service project.

St. Albans Rotary Club meets every Thursday at 12:00 noon in their new meeting location at City National Bank 560 4th Street,  Saint Albans, WV 25177.

South Charleston Rotary Club meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 12:00 noon. Meetings are located at Little Creek Country Club, South Charleston, WV.

Other Ways to Make-up a Meeting:
1. The board unanimously approved another avenue to get additional credit for attendance. In addition to attending a committee meeting, doing an online make-up, or visiting another Rotary Club you can now get one meeting credit for every new member prospect/guest you bring to a regular Monday meeting. The credit will apply during the same quarter in which you bring the potential member/guest. This is a great way to both make up attendance and recruit new members into our club.
