MARTIN LUTHER KING MURAL PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENT
The Community Investment and Fellowship Committees of your Charleston Rotary Club are combining their efforts in support of a community art project memorializing the influence and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Charleston Office of Public Art is coordinating the creation of a large mural honoring Dr. King, to be placed on an exterior wall of the Martin Luther King Center and visible from the nearby Interstate highways.
This project provides an opportunity for our members to make an individual contribution to the commemoration by participating in the creation of the mural. Each participant will paint a self-portrait(lifelike, fanciful, cartoonish, or otherwise—no art experience required) on a fabric “tile”. These tiles will later be affixed to the mural to create a background for the massive likeness of Dr. King. Some 1000 tiles are to be created.
Due to Covid-19 precautions, in-person workshops are not possible at this time. As an alternative, virtual workshops are being held under the direction of Jeff Pierson, Director of Public Art. As a participant, you will receive the necessary painting materials in advance, and will be led through the process personally by Mr. Pierson in a virtual online setting.
Please follow the link below to find the registration form for one or both of two upcoming workshops, April 8 and May 6, 2021. You will receive further information upon registering.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST IN COVID-19 VACCINATION CLINICS
Our fellow Rotarian, Craig Glover, CEO of the Family HealthCare Centers, recently suggested that our club might assist in the vaccination effort by soliciting volunteers to work at area vaccination clinics. The board heartily endorsed this suggestion.
Our volunteers would assist in “non-clinical” duties such as escorting people or directing them to the correct location in the building, disinfecting tables and chairs, and otherwise guiding people around the facility. You can choose to work from 8AM-4PM, or a shorter shift from 8AM-12PM or 12PM-4PM.
You can sign up for a volunteer position at the following website:
There you will find a listing of all upcoming vaccination clinics. You should look for entries titled “Volunteers.” You will see how many available volunteer slots there are, and you can click the button on that entry to sign up for that clinic. You can sign up for a clinic in Kanawha County or surrounding counties.
On arrival at your clinic you should ask for the Family Health Care Centers coordinator, who will guide you to the proper work area.
If you encounter problems signing up, you can contact Timothy Nunnery at the Family Health Care Centers (304-760-6320) for further assistance.
Thanks for volunteering and helping serve our greater community!

Thanks for the positive feedback and comments on our meetings! If you are attending, please continue and if not we encourage you to log on and enjoy!
I also want to ask that you continue to invite guests to benefit from the great speakers the Program Committee is lining up for us. Here is the simple process to follow when inviting guests:
- Forward the log on information to your guest and ask them to register.
- Send an email to bob.welty@53.com with a cc to debcoffman@suddenlink.net letting us know who your guest is.
- The email is essential because we want to a) warmly greet guests and b) we must record guests for Rotary and for our virtual system.
We appreciate your participation and look forward to welcoming your guests and, when appropriate, inviting them to become members!
Best,
Bob Welty

4/26/2021 – Senator Manchin, “News from Senator Manchin,” introduced by Ted Armbrecht

From his days as a state legislator to his six years as Governor to his current role, Senator Manchin has always been committed to his philosophy of “retail government” — in other words, connecting with all of his constituents and making service to them his top priority.

Senator Manchin currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and also serves on the Senate Committee on Appropriations, the Senate Committee on Armed Services, and the Senate Committee on Veterans’Affairs – four critical committees that tackle the important work of addressing our nation’s energy needs, overseeing discretionary spending, standing up for our Veterans, and defending our nation.

Other Ways to Make-up a Meeting:
1. The board unanimously approved another avenue to get additional credit for attendance. In addition to attending a committee meeting, doing an online make-up, or visiting another Rotary Club you can now get one meeting credit for every new member prospect/guest you bring to a regular Monday meeting. The credit will apply during the same quarter in which you bring the potential member/guest. This is a great way to both make up attendance and recruit new members into our club. Contact Paul White with questions.
2. To do a make-up meeting on-line, click the link below: Rotary Club Online make-up location: http://www.rotaryeclubone.org/The on-line system is set up to provide a written confirmation of the make-up to the person who actually did the make-up. The Member is then responsible for providing the confirmation to their Rotary Club Administrator. Please forward a copy of your confirmation letter to me debcoffman@suddenlink.net to receive proper credit, also check the weekly newsletter to see if I have listed your make up and name, if not this indicates that I did not receive your make-up notice.
