Baseball in WV, What’s going on at GoMart Ballpark with Rod Blackstone

April 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Rod Blackstone has been a fixture at professional baseball games in West Virginia’s capital city for 35 years, most of them as a vocal fan and for several years, working with the team.

As professional baseball in Charleston has entered a new era as the Charleston Dirty Birds, Rod is still with the front office as Community Ambassador and a sales rep.  He’s also still in the front row for every game, leading cheers to support the home team and making toast to distract opposing players.

In addition to working for West Virginia’s only professional baseball team, Rod was Deputy Mayor of Charleston for nearly 16 years working with Mayor Danny Jones when the City of Charleston built what is now GoMart Ballpark, created FestivALL Charleston and Live on the Levee among other special events, and renovated the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Before that he served as Press Secretary for both Congressman Bob Wise and Governor Cecil Underwood, worked for the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and WCHS-TV.

He leads a Sunday School class at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Charleston and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Charleston and a community-based mentor and internship supervisor for several UC students over the years.

Introduced by Vic Grigoraci.
