A Rotary Trip to Bradley, WV, Tuesday, July 23, 2013
Six Charleston Rotary Club members traveled to Bradley, WV and worked as volunteer backpack, handbag and package screeners for visitors attending the Boy Scout Jamboree that day. We met people from all parts of the U.S.A, as far away as Alaska, Puerto Rica and Maine. We heard wonderful stories about getting to West Virginia and their wonder at our expansive green mountains and the great times their children and friends were having. We did not follow the TSA model (which we all know so well) but instead acted as ambassadors for WVa, hoping that visitors would elect to return when more exploring time is available. Many said they would return. The Charleston Rotarians were Bob Bruner, Andy Ceperley, Richard Mitchell, Ann and Bill Sale, and Lyle Sattes.
At noon we traveled to the Rotary Club of Beckley and we enjoyed their weekly meeting and program.  We were hosted by Club President Bill O’Brien and our Jamboree Host Paul Hutchinson. We presented a Charleston Rotary Flag to President O’Brien and a round of picture-taking followed.
It was a great experience for all of us and we left the Beckley area feeling great about adding Rotarian brand of community feeling to this event.
